New York City Attorneys Standing Up for Tenants Rights
There are numerous New York and federal statutes that bar discrimination in housing. Whether housing refers to rental properties or the purchase of a property, individuals and families cannot be discriminated against on the basis of race, faith, age or gender.
At the law firm of Jeffrey S. Ween & Associates, we are committed to helping people navigate through complex and difficult real estate issues. To schedule a consultation with a lawyer, call 646-448-9300 or 888-832-1780. Or, contact our firm via e-mail.
Failure to Accommodate
Landlords must accommodate individuals with disabilities. For instance, if a tenant is blind and needs a seeing eye dog, landlords who have a no pet provision are still required to make an exception for their blind tenant. If they fail to make accommodations that would not have an adverse impact on other residents, they are in violation of both state and federal housing discrimination laws.
We can help seek compensation for the pain, suffering and emotional distress that occurs as a result of a failure to accommodate. In some cases, we are even able to recover compensation to pay for the legal fees of our clients.
